Medicine is increasingly relying on information technology for better diagnosis, treatment planning and research. Particularly important are non-invasive image acquisition techniques such as CT or MR. The vast amount of data acquired from medical scanners or simulations require fast and expressive volume visualization techniques. However, other areas of medicine are also in need of visualization tools, for example to access the vast quantities of information in biomedical databases.
